Hugh Grant Reveals Conversation That Left Wife Speechless—’Ugly Moment’
|Hugh Grant opened up about one of the greatest fears he has in his marriage to Anna Eberstein.
The Heretic actor married the film producer in 2018 and share three children, John Mungo, 12, daughters Lulu, 8, and Blue, 6. Grant shares two children, daughter Tabitha Xiao Xi, 13, and son Felix Chang Hong, 11, with his ex, Tinglan Hong.
During a recent appearance on the Smartless podcast, Grant described his wife as a “giant, terrifying Swede,” but also admitted, “I just can’t believe she likes me.”
“I’m a bit chatty compared to Swedish men, and she was married before to a very butch ski champion instructor or something,” he said.
He then revealed an “ugly moment” when he was filming his new horror movie, Heretic, in Canada where he told his wife by phone he had just gone for a a walk on Whistler Mountain only to be greeted by “a bit of a silence.”
“And then it turned out that her ex-husband lives on Whistler Mountain. I’m not very good in nature, and I did get into slight difficulties that day,” Grant explained, continuing, “And I had this nightmare scenario in which her ex-husband rescues me, carries me down the mountain over his shoulder. That would’ve been a low, low point.”
Despite joking that his wife was “terrifying,” Grant also admitted that Eberstein was “magnificent.”
He also spoke about their family life during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Grant also first joked about how living in a house full of children afforded him no peace, but relented by admitting he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I mean, there’s a lot to dread ’cause I’m old, and it’s noisy, and it’s unbearable. And I do a lot of hiding in the loo. I do a lot of sleeping in there now. There’s a lock, but they’ve pretty much broken it now,” he said this month.
“It is nice. I’m going home tonight, and you know, let’s face it, the bit where they jump in your arms. The 6-year-old, you know, she calls it her chimpanzee hug. I quite like that.”
Getting emotional Grant admitted, “I’ve made myself cry.”
Grant has continually shown during the Heretic promotional tour that he can poke fun at himself, including his infamous 1995 arrest. He was arrested in Los Angeles for lewd conduct with sex worker Estella Marie Thompson, aka Divine Brown, and his mug shot was splashed across the media globally.
He joked about the incident at the Heretic premiere at the TCL Chinese Theater in L.A. in October.
“Hollywood Boulevard has always been a lucky place for me,” he joked, referring to the fact his arrest had happened only a few blocks from the theater.
