Country music star Toby Keith uploaded a ‘heartbreaking’ Instagram post just one day before his tragic death at the age of 62.
Keith’s death was announced in a statement posted to his Facebook page, which subsequently explained how he passed away surrounded by his family on Monday (5 February).
Last year, Keith – who was known for songs including ‘Should’ve been a Cowboy’ and ‘I Love This Bar’ – announced he was living with cancer.
The statement added: “He fought with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”
In 2022, Keith shared the news of his illness in an update to fans posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer,” Keith wrote. “I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery…
“I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait,” the singer added.
Keith provided an update to fans in September, shortly before he received the Country Icon Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards.
The singer told E! News that the period since his diagnosis had been a ‘bit of a roller coaster’, though he certainly appreciated the notice he was getting at award shows.
“Those years of pounding those songs out there and remembering where you were when each one was conceived and all that, it’s amazing,” he said.
Just one day before his tragic death, Keith was reminiscing on previous live performances and anticipating what the future may hold.
The late singer shared a video from one of his recent concerts alongside the caption: “And that’s a wrap on the weekend, y’all. Back to it.”
