Shannen Doherty Was in a ‘Dark Place’ After Discovering Ex Kurt Iswarienko Had Cheated on Her

Shannen Doherty is revealing how infidelity in her marriage affected her mental health.

In the latest episode of the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, Doherty, 53, sat down with host Kelly Ripa, where the two discussed the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum’s divorce. She said that finding out her ex husband Kurt Iswarienko cheated on her led her down a hard path.

“I was really, really in a dark place for, like, nine months after I found out what he did,” she said.
“And I had brain surgery. When I found out, it was like a whole fiasco that it’s only recently that I’ve completely recovered where I have zero [feelings] for him anymore.”

She also explained that because she is still in the midst of divorce proceedings, she doesn’t have a clear picture of what her future will look like — especially when it comes to finding a new relationship.

“I don’t know where I am with dating,” she admitted. “It’s only been a year since the whole fiasco with my husband, and I’m still fighting a divorce, and it’s still so hard and raw.”

Iswarienko’s rep did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Doherty previously opened up about affairs in past relationships on her own podcast, Let’s Be Clear. Earlier this month, she said that what led to infidelity with one person in particular was a lack of respect.

“What I don’t understand and what I can never wrap my head around is why someone thinks that they don’t owe you as a human being respect,” she said of the unnamed ex. “I know that for me personally, it’s been very hard to find that somebody I was in a relationship with wasn’t just one affair. It was like many, many affairs. So for me, that’s like, wow.”

This week, Doherty also provided an update on her divorce from Iswarienko on the podcast. The Charmed actress — who has terminal stage 4 breast cancer which has spread to her bones — explained that her ongoing health problems have made the process even more difficult.

“Obviously, divorce is not easy, especially when you really loved someone,” she said. “And I did love my husband. And when you get so hurt by their actions that you just feel betrayed and like a sucker, it’s really hard.”

Doherty filed for divorce in April 2023 after 11 years of marriage. Recent documents have revealed that she and the famed photographer have been negotiating spousal support, and Doherty claimed in the filing that her ex was not cooperating with lawyers.

“It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” she stated in the docs.

His attorney, Katherine Heersema, pushed back against these claims: “Kurt is not ‘simply wait[ing] for Shannen to die. He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.”
