The song was an instant smash-hit at number one on the charts where it remained for two weeks.

A DUET WITH KENNY ROGERS GONE WRONG
The now iconic love duet was written by Kim Carnes and Donna Terry Weiss McEntire had intended to record it as a duet with another country legend, Kenny Rogers.
Rogers and McEntire couldn’t get the song to “sound just right,” so she decided to record it as a solo.
“The Heart Won’t Lie” tells the story of two people who struggle to hide their love for each other.
MCENTIRE INVITED GIL TO “SING HARMONY”
McEntire invited Vince Gill to sing the harmony part to her new song, but while they were recording, her producer had a brilliant idea:
“[He] suggested letting Vince do more than just sing harmony on the song, so he took a couple of verses, and we decided to turn it into a duet.”

In February 1994, McEntire and Gill blew away the audience at the Roy Acuff Theater with a passionate rendition of “The Heart Won’t Lie.” Their performance brought the audience to their feet, and to this day “The Heart Won’t Lie” is one of the best love McEntire love songs.
REBA MCENTIRE SANG AT FORMER PRESIDENT’S FUNERAL
Among the guests at President George H. W. Bush’s funeral in Houston, was country legend Reba McEntire, and she paid homage to the 41st president in her own special way.
McEntire moved the 1,200 guests at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church to tears with her soulful rendition of the “Lord’s Prayer.”
“It was an honor and privilege to sing at President George H.W. Bush’s funeral this morning. He was a great friend and leader and I will never forget the time we shared together.”
