Princess Anne’s Husband Shares Update amid Her Hospitalization After Horse ‘Incident’: ‘Recovering Slowly’

Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence gave a brief update on Princess Anne following her third night at the hospital after being injured in a horse-related incident.

Sir Tim, 69, answered a few questions from the press outside the hospital on June 26 after visiting his wife. King Charles’ sister, 73, sustained minor injuries and a concussion following an “incident” at her Gatcombe Park home on June 23.

“How’s your wife, Sir? Is she doing well?” someone called out to Sir Tim as he left the medical facility, as seen in a video shared to X by ITV’s Chris Ship.

“Recovering slowly, thank you,” he said while walking towards a car.

“Do you expect her out today, Sir?” another asked.

“She’ll be out when she’s ready,” Sir Tim replied.

Princess Anne’s husband offered similar comments about how she was doing following a hospital visit on June 25.

“She is recovering well, thank you. We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care — and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene,” said Sir Tim, who has been married to the royal since 1992.

“We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far. It means a great deal,” he added.

In a clip shared online by Ship on June 25, Sir Tim told reporters, “She’s fine. Slow but sure.”

On June 24, Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Anne was hospitalized following an accident at her country home the day prior.

“The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery,” they said in the statement.

“The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery,” they continued.

Due to the concussion the Princess Royal sustained, the exact details of the accident are unable to be ascertained. However, Princess Anne’s injuries are consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs. On June 25, The Telegraph reported that Princess Anne was suffering memory loss, thought to be temporary, relating to the incident.

The accident meant that the royal could not continue her schedule as planned this week. A palace spokesperson confirmed she would not be at the Buckingham Palace banquet King Charles held in honor of the Japanese state visit on June 25. Her plans to fly to Canada later in the week were additionally called off, following medical advice.

“Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result,” a palace spokesperson said.

The King’s sister is regularly cited as the “hardest-working royal” by the count of official engagements recorded in the Court Circular, making her absence from the front lines another blow to the royal family. King Charles resumed royal duties in late April following his cancer diagnosis, while Kate Middleton continues to maintain a low profile while undergoing chemotherapy.

Palace aides stressed that the Princess of Wales’ recent appearance at Trooping the Colour on June 15 (her first public event in nearly six months) didn’t signal a return to public royal work, as she continues to privately prioritize her health.
