Burnett first married Don Saroyan in 1955, but the two went their separate ways in 1962. After Saroyan, Burnett tied the knot with Joe Hamilton in 1963. Hamilton and Burnett had three children together before divorcing in 1984. Finally, the actress met Brian Miller, and the two settled down in 2001. Burnett spoke about her husband:

“He’s funny and not easily intimidated. As we get older, the gap between our ages narrows. If you were 40 and married a 20-year-old, I don’t think you could communicate like [we do].”

Naturally, Miller was heartbroken after her daughter’s death.

Dylan’s mother, Erin Hamilton, had struggled with substance abuse problems throughout her life. Since her son’s birth, Hamilton has attended rehabilitation centers on and off and has been institutionalized a total of eight times. Despite the numerous times Erin has gone to rehab, her mom thought it prudent to take responsibility for Hamilton West.

Burnett noted that Dylan’s living environment with his mother was “unstable,” and she admitted that his conditions weren’t conducive to a stable upbringing. So, in 2019, Burnett and Miller decided to file for guardianship to give the little boy a better home until his mother shook her addiction for good.
