Have you ever dreamed of buying a house and finding hidden treasures inside? Well, that dream came true for Maggie and Matt McGaugh when they purchased a house in Caddo Lake, Texas, with plans to turn it into an Airbnb. Little did they know that they would end up with two homes and an estimated $25,000 worth of valuable collectibles and stunning pieces of furniture that the previous owners of one of the properties had left behind.

After buying their first $350,000 property, the couple learned that the property next door was on the market and decided to take a tour. The two-bed, two-bath house had been abandoned for over 20 years and was being sold fully-furnished, which was a sign for Maggie, a furniture-flipping DIY influencer.

The couple bought the abandoned property for just under $200,000 from the nonprofit organization that the previous owner had donated it to. The previous owner was the daughter of a rich man who invented an airplane engine part. The man fell ill and his daughter built the house for her father to take care of him. However, unfortunately her father died only a few weeks after he started living in the house. The daughter left the house fully furnished, occasionally paid people to clean it, paid electricity and water bills for 20 years and never returned to the house. After 20 years, she got tired of spending money on maintaining the house and donated it to the non-profit organization.

Maggie was amazed at the condition of the house, as the original owner had left the electricity running and everything was in pristine condition. She felt like she was walking around a museum and stepped back in time.

As they renovate and decorate, Maggie is sharing details on TikTok and giving her followers a peek at some of the random finds in the house. Maggie and Matt were amazed to find even a boat and lawnmower in the shed.

Some of the valuable items the couple found in the house include a $1,600 painting and a dining table that retails for at least $10,000. There were also two couches they plan on keeping and a full-size bed set made from solid Tiger oak wood, which Maggie said is valued at over $15,000.

The couple got the house deep cleaned for the future guests will have the option to stay in either the main house next door or to reserve both. The previously abandoned home will rent at a discount, and between the two homes, they will be able to host about 20 people in total.

Buying the abandoned property has made Maggie want to purchase more properties, although she and Matt can’t afford it right now. She says it’s been an indescribable feeling not just to buy an abandoned home but to get to see...
