Single Dad of 3 Helps Older Lady Who Falls Down the Stairs, She Shows Up with a Truck at His Home Later — Story of the Day

Adam, a single dad of three, helps an older woman who falls down the stairs, not expecting her to show up at his house the next day. Alice visits him with a truck of items, but even she is unaware of the nasty surprises her gift holds.

It was a peaceful morning. Adam was on his usual jog at the local park, after which he’d have to head home and drop his children—Amanda, 13, and Jared, 8—to school.

After his wife passed away six years ago, Adam was left alone to care for his children. Thankfully, his eldest daughter, Stacey, 22, would help with the breakfast preparation and getting the kids ready every morning when he’s out jogging.

Adam looked at his watch. He’d have to rush home in five minutes. He had finished another round of the park and was ready to leave when the sight of an elderly lady stopped him in his tracks.

She was struggling up the park stairs, and just as she neared the top, she lost her footing and tumbled back down, rolling awkwardly.

“Ma’am!” Adam sprinted over to the woman, worried. “Are you OK?”

“I’m fine; it was just a little fall,” she replied, but Adam knew she wasn’t fine. She was wincing in pain and limping as she tried to walk. He offered to call the ambulance, but she refused.

“Please, let me walk you home,” he said, offering his arm to her, and she agreed.

They began to chat on their way to her home, and the woman introduced herself as Alice. She revealed she was recently widowed after losing her husband, Frank. He was crossing the street one evening, and a car just hit him. The driver took off, and they never caught who did it.

Adam knew how it felt to lose a loved one and he opened up to Alice about his wife, too. As they reached Alice’s home, she thanked him and asked for his address. “I just want to send you a little something for your kids, and thank you,” she said.

Adam hesitantly gave her his address and hurried home to his children.

The next morning, Stacey’s voice startled Adam awake. “Dad! Quick! Something weird’s happening outside!”
